The Flavors And Aroma
Of Colombian Coffee
Colombia is a leading coffee manufacturing country. It's
well known for its robust, aromatic and well-balanced coffees. The success of
its flavor is attributed to the regions in which the coffee is grown, which are
at high altitudes under the care and shade of rubber and banana tress which also
influence the aroma of the coffee.
The main coffee growing regions of Colombia are Medellin,
Armenia and Manizales (also known as MAM to most coffee connoisseurs). The soil
here is rich and well hydrated, has the right amount of sun, and is well shaded
by banana and rubber plantations.
Colombian Coffee Goes Around The World
The coffee plant is believed to have arrived in Colombia
around the 1600s and was ready for being exported to the outside world sometime
around the 1800s. More precisely, in 1835 Colombia made its first export of
approximately 2500 bags of coffee to the United States.
By 1875, 170,000 bags of coffee were being exported all around
the world. Today, Colombia registers approximately 10 million bags of coffee in
export. These numbers speak for themselves with regard to the quality of the
Colombian coffee, and easily make Colombian one of the leading export countries
for coffee beans.
Drinking A Cup Of Colombian Coffee
We all have our own way of enjoying a cup of coffee, and while
you may not want to hear it, we'll mention it here anyway. The extraordinary
taste of Colombian coffee can be lost if the coffee is not immediately consumed.
The longer it sits around, the less of the flavor you'll be able to enjoy.
Therefore, to enjoy a cup of Colombian coffee at its fullest,
grind it fresh and brew it in a traditional coffee maker, or if possible use an
espresso machine. The aromas will fill the entire building and leave even
non-coffee drinkers craving for a cup.
Helpful Tip
Colombian coffee is well-balanced but strong, so try some
experimenting especially if you drink your coffee black. For instance, try a
small cup of coffee first to see if it agrees with your taste buds, then adjust
accordingly. No matter how the world rates it, a cup of coffee is only as good
if it meets your best expectations.
